This recording is a continuation of a formal interview with Efim Grigoryevich Skobilitskii. (Part 4 of 4. See MDV 341, MDV 342, and MDV 343) He remembers a few works of Yiddish literature. The conversation then moves to childhood memories and a series of questions from the Yiddish dialectological questionnaire. In between the dialectological information, Skobilitskii also talks about prewar Jewish cultural life.
The interview team then visits the town market in Berdychiv in order to film Isaak Iosipovich Vaisman selling seltzer water.
The next scene takes place inside the soup kitchen of the Jewish community center. There the team conducts a short, informal interview with Raisa Iosifovna Chukh, nee Rozenblat, who was born in 1919 in Berdychiv.
The tape concludes with another informal interview with David Zelikovich Furman, who was born in 1919 in Berdychiv. He began his carpenter apprenticeship at thirteen, before the war and was drafted into the Red Army in 1939, where he was trained in the Far East. When the Soviet Union entered the war, he was transferred to the front and fought at Stalingrad, where he lost his leg. He then shows a picture of himself wearing his military medals.
